Well, I'm home from my excellent adventure and continue to recover. I saw and did so much, there's a lot for me to think about. I'd like to put together the Canyonlands 2000 edition of links, but that will have to wait.

Today is the sixth anniversary of my meeting Sean, and the fourth anniversary of our wedding. And tonight, dinner at One if by Land...

18 July 2000:
Many months ago, I posted links to a site about a guy working on beating the record for climbing all of Colorado's 14ers (peaks over 14,000 feet). Telluride's Rick Denesik is at it again, trying to beat his own record. Nice article about him today in the Daily Planet.

And last week's anniversary dinner at One if by Land... was amazing. I've never had an experience quite like it. Also wonderful was Sunday's dinner with Jonathan at Chicama on 18th Street. Their specialty is ceviches, but it's all good.

I've gone on about the newly-created Hudson River Park in the past, but today we took advantage of something new to us: kayaking at the Downtown Boathouse. This is just way too cool. It's totally free, staffed entirely by volunteers... you sign a waiver, don a life jacket, get a few pointers from the staff, and then you're off on the Hudson! Splashing away on a summer afternoon. This is one of those things that is almost too cool to mention, since I'd personally hate for it to become too crowded and over-run, but it's also way too cool to not promote. Just awesome. Thanks, Sunday, for turning me on to it!

No links today (should I just come out and announce that I'm on a summer hiatus? I don't want to believe that's the case, but I've been pretty lame here for a while), but a question. Do any of you have any idea how news outlets get images so damn quickly? I'm thinking of yesterday's Concorde crash, and how the news story appreared on the AP and CNN sites within 30 minutes of the accident, and it was hardly more than 15 minutes after that that they had the photo of the plane in flames. So who was there with the camera? How did it get into the hands of the media so quickly? I'm really curious...

Oh, look. A whole feature on CNN.com about the photograph of the burning Concorde.

Salon's got a wonderful article on the new(est) re-release of Woody Guthrie's Dust Bowl Ballads. This one's definitely worth a listen. How cool is it that it's getting the love it deserves now?
28 July 2000:
I know it's so lame of me to be posting Salon stories here, but today's articles on the United Airlines "soft-strike" are too close to home. We at Casa Lobos have been affected by this more times in the last year than I can count.

Tellurider Rick Denesek has beaten his own record! 54 Fourteeners in twelve days.

Holy cow, it's worse than I thought. I just realized that all of my links this month have been from CNN, Salon, or Telluride's Daily Planet. I suck! I promise to work on my slacking -- er, surfing -- time and come up with something a little more interesting soon. I've been workin' like a dog, trying to make up for all the time lost during my month away. (Speaking of which, I recently put five random photos from my month in the Canyonlands up on the top page.)
